Amber Guy

My name is Amber Guy, and I am a graduate student at Liberty University pursuing a Master of Arts (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am serving my practicum and internship at Affinity Counseling & Wellness, PLLC under the supervision of Susannah S. Cecil, MEd, LMHCS, E-RYT. We offer individual, group, couples, and family counseling, and serve clients from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
I have over twenty years of experience as an educator and administrator working with children and adolescents. As a teacher, I excelled in creating individualized plans for students and finding intuitive ways to build engagement in and out of the classroom. Relationship building was a strength of mine and a skill I plan on transferring to my new role as counselor. I believe rapport and trust are essential for a strong therapeutic relationship.I have a special interest in working with adolescents and young adults, as well as individuals and couples experiencing life changes or trauma. I believe every person deserves to be heard. My goal is to provide a safe space for clients to explore their needs in a caring, non-judgmental environment. I work from a person-centered framework while utilizing other evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I look forward to getting to know my clients and look forward to being a part of their wellness journey.
